Hansberry's death in 1965 at the age of 34 deprived the American theater of its most important African American playwright. "Les Blancs" "What Use Are Flowers" &"The Drinking Gourd" which was commissioned but never produced by NBC. Nemiroff had been Hansberry's husband; his extensive notes detail the plays' contexts, including the controversy surrounding NBC's decision not to produce her work.
