Lilienthal, Meta Stern

Dear remembered world; childhood memories of an old New Yorker

Richard R. Smith, New York. 1947, 248p., first edition, very good condition, dj with minor fading on the edges. "Meta Stern Lilienthal was one of the most important journalists among women in the Socialist party. She produced several pamphlets, scores of leaflets and short essays, and edited a women's page in the "New Yorker Volkszeitung" and a "Votes for Women" column in the "New York Call." Her autobiography, however, does not focus on her political accomplishments; it relates, often in charming detail, her childhood memories of New York City. Nevertheless, Lilienthal provides scattered insights into the German immigrant radical milieu of the late nineteenth century, for her parents were ardent Socialists and prominent activists in the Socialist Labor party."
