Alfred A. Knopf, New York. 1960, 246p., first US edition clothbacked boards elaborated in gilt and blind, in dj, tinted top edge and untrimmed foredge, nice production. Casing is foxed upon endsheets and text edges, and the top edge has a severe dent at the headband affecting spine panel, unclipped jacket is foxed and slightly soiled. Goytisolo's seond novel in English reflects the misery of Franco's Spain. From dj: "the religious festival reaches its culmination in fireworks and rich pageantry while, on the other hand the police dispossess a swarm of Murcian squatters from their shacktown." Festas was "banned in Franco Spain" and first appeared in Argentina
