Sappho [pseud.; anonymous] edited by Michel Darius

I, Sappho of Lesbos; the autobiography of a strange woman, translated from the medieval Latin

Castle Books, New York. 1960, 183p., very good first edition in boards and unclipped dj. Fiction of plainly modern composition for which the editors (plural) supply a single page of background and the disclaimer that "the present publishers make no historical claims whatsoever" and allow its "doubtful authenticity." There is not so much as a single footnote, let alone mock critical apparatus that would have made it a little more fun, and a kind of Nabokovian "Pale Fire"
