The University of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill. 1930, [viii], 101p., first edition 10.5x7 inch black cloth boards gilt in plain printed buff dust jacket; cloth and gilt are bright and casing sound and square, with top and tail being slightly crimped. The price-clipped jacket is irregularly toned, has an inch-long split in rear top joint with corresponding lateral tear across panel of spine, (the archival-grade brodart largely disguises this), and has five small chips around margins and spine, and a large (3x2 inch) chip in the middle of back panel that has removed a dozen or so words from the publisher's ad there. A good to very good copy. University of North Carlina Social Study. The author presents original melodies "whose value lies in their presentation and preservation exactly as they are found and sung." - foreword. The author/collector's presentation reflects the paternalistic racism characteristic of the period
