Recipient and inscribee, FYI, was editor Robert [L.] Allen. Wickham, a black journalist, describes the trauma of his shockingly orphaned childhood; following the double murder/suicide of his parents, he wound up as caddy at an all-white Jewish country club --Woodholme-- in suburban Baltimore.
