A novel set partly in a Loyalist prison in Madrid, where inmates are "shot like animals under the sign of the Hammer and Sickle" [sic], and where a squad of prison guards is itself imprisoned for "taking reprisals on anarchists;" also set in the Nationalist underground (forging papers that will fool the Republicans &c &c )
