School of the Arts Strike Committee

Strike Analysis [handbill]

the Committee [at Columbia University], New York. 1970, 8.5x11 inch handbill, mimeographed both sides, small stain at edge. The 1970 strike, sparked by the Kent State shootings, was called to support three demands: release of political prisoners including Black Panthers; withdrawal from Southeast Asia, and an end to universities' "complicity with the US war machine." The flier mentions the 1968 killing of three Black students at Orangeburg, SC, asking "Why were no white students shocked or outraged when their black brothers were murdered in Orangeburg only 2 years ago?"
