The Hermanville, Mississippi-born, Chicago raised poet became a leading figure of the Bohemian scene in New York's Greenwich Village in the 1920s.He was an associate of Dorothy Day and he and his wife were murdered in their flophouse rooms by an acquaintance from the streets.
