Elizabeth Ann League, New York. n.d., [12p.], staplebound booklet, 3.5x4.75 inches, very good but for toned rectangle on back cover, with pre-addressed envelope for sending in a membership form. Includes the text of the group's charter, dated 1927. The League was founded by Nan Britton, author of "The President's Daughter," who claimed that president Warren Harding was the father of her child, Elizabeth Ann (a wildly controversial claim at the time, which has recently been proven correct by genetic testing). She used the royalties from the sale of her book to found this organization to support the welfare of unwed mothers and "the social equality of all children born either within or without what we call wedlock." The booklet notes that the fathers of such children "are mostly hidden - in the protecting underbrush of unfair social thinking which grows up to screen the man. The mothers of these children are not hidden. Everyone knows who they are... And the babies are not hidden either. Everyone knows they are illegitimate. Fingers are pointed at them. They struggle under a social handicap which is never lifted..."
