The Dobe Dollar Store, Los Angeles. 1930, 20p., 5.5x7.75 inches, illustrations, brief outline/chronology of Los Angeles 1769-1876, signed by Brown on title page, very good booklet/pamphlet in stapled terra cotta wraps with vignette of a man in a sombrero on cover. The booklet was created and financed by various shops on Olvera Street and the quotes are taken from Forman Brown's "The Pageant of Early Los Angeles" from his Yale Puppeteers production. Brown was born in Otsego, MI and bummed around France and the US. His first poem was published in The Dial in 1926. He ended up establishing a puppet theatre in Los Angeles where such notables as Elsa Lanchester performed. He was also a songwriter (Bette Midler performed one of his songs at an AIDS benefit) He is also know as Richard Meeker who wrote "Better Angel" a 1933 novel about a gay man facing his sexuality.
