Page, Thomas Nelson

Marse Chan. A tale of old Virginia

Charles Scribner's Sons, New York. 1892, 53p., decorated boards with gilt title, very good with minor smudges of soil to back cover. Story set in 1872 looking back on a story of Master Channing, told in the dialect voice of a former slave. Page was a prominent writer of Southern nostalgia (and amnesia), in whose works simple, happy slaves bring color to the procedings.
