Bangs, John Kendrick

Alice in Blunderland, An Iridescent Dream. Illustrated by Albert Levering

Doubleday, Page & Company, New York. 1907, viii, 124p., hardbound first edition 7x4.5 inch cloth boards spine-titled and decorated with a b&w plate laid down on the cover (as issued). A worn, in fact uglified, ex library copy with the cachet that it once belonged to Walt Disney Studios, the Disney rubberstamp in four places. The author's overall target appears to be American urban planning (or "M.O." for "Municipal Ownership") as witnessed by chapter titles such as "The Immovable Trolley. The Aromatic Gas Plant. The City-owned Police. The Municipaphone. The Municipal Ownership of Children." Bangs is a better-than-usual parodist and Levering a superior artist who gets his Tenniel right.
