The Coleman Defense Coordinating Committee, San Francisco. [1942], Six panel brochure, 3.75x8.5 inches, all text except for a full length photo of Coleman, 8.5x11 inch one page publicity letter on Committee letterhead laid in (creased for mailing, sent folded) Coleman, an African American WPA worker originally from Louisiana, was railroaded into San Quentin by a racist judge and incompetent attorney during his San Francisco trial for rape and robbery. The Committee called Coleman's case 'California's Scottsboro.'
