[Kazan, Watanabe,1793-1841]

The Bulletin of The Cleveland Museum of Art for March 1983 volume LXX, Number 3, March 1983

the museum, Cleveland. 1983, Pp.99-135 (about 35 pages total), softbound in 9x7.5 inch glossy color-decorated stapled wraps, glossy coated paperstock throughout with profuse b&w exhibit photography, captioned amid a running commentary. Cover portrait in color, shows the freakishly tall samurai Ozorabuzaemon. Cover is rubbed with some streaking across the subject, otherwise light handling wear, a good-only copy. The material on Kazan extends a dozen pages; the rest of the bulletin is an ambitious contrast of Asian and Western landscape painting, where Claude Lorrain's "Flight into Egypt" is juxtaposed to Liu Tu's "Viewing the Streams and Mountains, for starters. An extensive essay with profuse examples, the last of which pairs Kantenju and Van Gogh.
