[Tom Mooney Molders' Defense Committee], San Francisco; Los Angeles. [1932], Two 7x8 inch leaflets printed to resemble summons documents, instructing the reader to attend meetings demanding a pardon for Mooney; both are headed "The court of highest appeal: the People of the State of California. Thomas J. Mooney to the People of the State of California, etc.: SUMMONS." One is for a San Francisco event on November 6, with a small portrait of Mooney; the other is for a Los Angeles event on Dec. 23. The SF leaflet is somewhat toned; the LA one has a small closed edge tear. Both events promise an appearance by Paul Callicotte, who had issued a stunning confession that he had actually planted the bomb for which Mooney had been imprisoned. Though Mooney did not trust him, members of his defense team did, and briefly took him on a tour where he was cross-examined before large audiences. In late December, the United Press reported that the confession had definitively been proven false. Curt Gentry, in his book "Frame-up," discusses this attention-seeker on pages 448-449.
