Connor, Clifford D.

Colonel Despard The Life and Times of an Anglo-Irish Rebel. Foreword by Bernardette Devlin McAliskey.

Combined jPublishing, Conshohocken PA. 2000, 332p., illustrated with several line maps and the dj portrait of Despard; hardbound in silver-lettered boards and dust jacket, inscribed and signed (as "Cliff") by author to well-known Trotskyist Gerry Foley, with (laid in) a short note on Connor's letterhead reading: "Here's the book. You've already read it in draft, but I wanted to send you a copy of the finished product in appreciation of your contribution to it. By the way, I heard that Bernadette is supposed to be speaking tonight" &c &c. A fine copy, entirely sound and clean; having "already read it," Gerry didn't mark it up as he usually did the books in his library. FYI, Despard fought for England in Nicaragua and Belize along with a young Royal Naval officer named Horatrio Nelson; as Admiral, Nelson testified in Despard's defence but could not prevent his execution for supposed plotting against the life of George III. A Signpost Biography.
