Merchant Ships 1949-1950. The Book of Reference on the World's Merchant Shipping

McGraw-Hill Book Company Inc., New York. 1949, 22[ads], 260p., glossy paperstock throughout with profuse b&w photoillustrations and captioning, very much in the "Jane's All the World's" format. Hardbound 12x10 inch blue buckram boards gilt; somewhat edgeworn with tiny tufts of fray at corner-tips, hinges slightly weak, old ownership on the pastedown datelined 1950, no other markings within. A good copy. Editor touts new feature, a list of ships "building and completed" during 12 months prior to March '49. Apologizes that this year the "funnel section" is omitted. Notes that "one of the most arduous sections of the book to prepare was that devoted to war losses of the world's merchant shipping. It was decided not to include German and Japanese losses in this edition as the list was so long."
