Roosevelt, Theodore Jr. and Grantland Rice, compilers

Taps; selected poems of the great war. Illustrations by captain John Thomason

Doubleday, Doran & Company, Inc., Garden City. 1932, xv, 235p., calendared paperstock, first edition hardcover in rose cloth boards gilt. Lacks the jacket, spine panel is sunned, slight foxing fore and aft. Former owner has fixed his guild card to front pastedown; good copy, sound and clean within. Roosevelt introduces the collection as a kind of standard-setting folksong phenomenon, immediate and spared oversophistication by timeliness, and fails to anticipate the superhorrrors of WWII.
