Morrison, Anna M.

Earlier Poems of Anna M. Morrison

A.L. Bancroft & Co., San Francisco. 1880, xvii, 86p, stipple-engraved frontis portrait; first edition in this format: blue cloth-bound boards with gilt-stamped cover and spine titling. A fair-only copy with external handling soil, front free endsheet roughly out, fraying to margins and dampstain to back cover. Anna Medora Morrison Reed (1850-1921) was a California poet and lecturer who supported her immediate family with her public appearances. While this book's preface points out her anti-suffrage stance, her obituary notes that she was "a tireless worker for the women's cause." She edited a Petaluma daily paper as well as the monthly magazine The Northern Crown, was a member of the Pacific Coast Women's Press Association, and published several other volumes of poetry, traveling in the circles of Gertrude Athertin and Jaochim Miller
