James French and Company, Boston. 1857, 336p., inserted wood-engraved plates (four in our copy, all of sailing vessels), hardbound first edition 8x5 inch moss-green cloth boards panelled blind, titled with device (cabin amongst trees) gilt. A good copy with the following faults: edgeworn with card showing at all extremities, transverse rips and minute losses at head and tail, front hinge cracked, flecks of soil and foxing scattered throughout. Textblock is slightly rippled and opens stiffly (binder's error? may have been sewn too tightly) but will lie flat and is quite square. Cover vignette is still bright, spine mildly dim, a presentable, better-than-reading copy.
