[Goldsmith, Oliver]

Goldsmith's Roman History, Abridged. A new Edition in two volumes.

Printed for Peter Beaume, Bordeaux. 1807, The two volumes bound together; 200, vi, 202p., iv; hardcover in original polished calf, 5.3x3.3 inch boards with red spine label and rulings gilt, smallpoint type on calendared paperstock. Possibly a cross-channel pirate issue. The binding is wormed horizontally with a dozen pinpoint punctures, no tunneling of textblock. Covers scuffed, extremities abraded with card showing at corner-tips. There is a contemporary ownership signature in sepia nib across the top margin of title page (one "S. Meagher / Lisbon"), no other markings. HInges are sound, joints punctured but not splitting, one double leaf is fractionally started but not at risk. Label is legible; a good handleable copy of a specimen of Goldsmith's for-money "hack works."
