Dewitt, David Miller

The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and Its Expiation

The Macmillan Company, New York. 1909, ix, 302p., publisher's ads; hardcover in ribbed maroon cloth titled and ruled gilt, top edge gilded. Front hinge was severely cracked and a former owner "repaired" this with too much glue, resulting in adhesion of cloth spine to backstrip of textblock, creating a wrinkle, discoloring spine lettering adjacent to the repair, and cracking the free endsheet at the gutter. Otherwise, slight edgewear to cloth boards, paperstock slightly toned, all other aspects clean and sound. A presentable if flawed copy. Received wisdom on the conspiracy, justified by trial findings. Author's previous publication was on "The Impeachment and Trial of President Johnson"
