The San Francisco Calamity by Earthquake and Fire [publisher's dummy] A complete and accurate account of the fearful disaster which visited the great city and the Pacific coast, the reign of panic and lawlessness, the plight of 300,000 homeless people and the world-wide rush to the rescue. Told by eye witnesses. Including graphic and reliable [&c &c; abridged issue]

World Bible House, Philadelphia. , Jobber's sampler, a scatter of text and plates from the 500-plus-page production, bound in the lurid decorated cloth boards, gilt-titled, that will enclose the finished product; decoration shows a toppling "skyscraper" outlined black and licked by red flames. This sampler textblock is about a quarter-inch thick; casing is edgeworn with a little fraying, sound copy. Note subtitle text and the characterization of San Francisco as "the great city;" --suiting the publisher as bible salesman, this is an allusion to the Book of Revelation and the "overthrow of Babylon, that great city"
