Foster, William Z.; Robert Minor

Report to the Communist Party Convention, July 27-29, 1945 [carbon copy of typed draft, together with Robert Minor's response]

the author, n.p.. 1945, Nineteen pages of onionskin paper, 8.5x11 inches, carbon copy of typescript, occasional pencil checkmarks or circles in text, the names of Bob Minor and Jim Ford penciled at upper left corner of first page (two prominent communist leaders with whom the draft was shared); formerly stapled together at upper left corner, the staple neatly removed, but leaving traces of rust, and a paperclip rust stain present as well. This appears to have been Robert Minor's copy, as we have also a four-page carbon of a typed response from Minor with suggestions for improvement [included], which expresses reservations or suggestions regarding passages that are simply checked in pencil on Foster's draft. Attacks Browder for revisionism, calls for the abandonment of the Communist Political Association formulation and restoration of the Communist Party title because "We will have more standing among the people operating frankly as the Communist Party, than snooping around under a tricky alias." This passage is marked with a penciled X in the margin, and in Minor's written response, he cites this line as an example of "expressions which would be alright in private conversation but not so hot in a report to a convention."
