Wong, Geoffrey P.

Golden Daze, a novel. The sequel to A golden state of mind.

Trafford Publishing, Victoria BC. 2003, 312p., brief bibliography, first edition trade-size wraps, a very good copy inscribed and signed by Geoffrey Wong on the title page, this inscription accompanied by another signed by "Dad" who knows "Geoff." Wong is third-generation UCB grad, a lawyer who knows where actual bodies are buried, which he serves up under pseudonyms; Herb Caen is "Sam Paean" here as in the earlier novel. William Randolph Hearst is "W.R. Chandler," neatly enough. Whether or not Joan Didion reappears as "Joan Dildeaux" (ouch) we can't say, but we know she was winning Ina Coolbrith prizes in the mid-1950s. Genuine information is bandied about concerning "San Francisco scandals, Lake Tahoe secrets," the campus and the courtroom. A detail that struck this cataloguer is Wong's account of the social machine that put up the TransAmerica Pyramid.
