Journal of the House of Assembly of California, at the twelfth session of the legislature, begun on the seventh day of January, 1861, and ended on the twentieth day of May, 1861, at the city of Sacramento.

Printed by C. T. Botts, State Printer, Sacramento. 1861, 1047p., 8.8x5.5 inch untrimmed textblock recased in new quarter leather over the original boards, original endsheets preserved (or are excellent facsimiles). The first half-dozen leaves, including title page, are edgeworn, irregularly toned and fragile; in general, a very successful rebind and quite handleable. Laid in are two modern printed paper spine labels (one on coarse stock, the other on smooth) to be affixed at next owner's discretion. The bulk of text deals with bills and voting records, in list- and table-form. Other topics touched on include prison-sentence commutations (with precis of reasons), the disposition of insane persons, the nascent Civil War, rails, land-titles.
