[Scott, Winfield, 1786-1866]

General Scott's correspondence with hon. W. L. Marcy, secretary of war under president Polk. The following correspondence is copied from the official records. It proves, more than any other argument could establish, the marked unfitness of General Scott for the duties of the presidency, and fully confirms the declarations of many of those who now support him, that he has neither the temper, the capacity, nor the experience for that highest of all civil stations:"

no publisher, no city. no date (assume 1848), 16p., printed double-column, 8.7x5.5 inch self-wraps. Disbound, cover leaves split at the spinefold and detached, front bears an old cross-out in ink, the name "A. R. Shreve" in holograph and also small block letters, several short underlines in pencil, short marginal tears, dust and foxing. A fair copy.
