John the Conqueror Great Herb Compound [label]

Famous Products Co., Chicago. 1937, 1.5x4 inch label in full color depicting John the Conqueror as a bearded European king, an unused example of the labels used on 4 ounce bottles of the concoction - a laxative that included Cascara and Buckthorn bark, Berberis, Mandrake root, and other ingredients. Very good. An example of hoodoo medicine graphics, discussed in "Spiritual Merchants: Religion Magic & Commerce" by Carolyn Morrow Long, p. 240.
