Foreman, Julia B.

A Choice to Make Annual Address to the National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc., Denver, Colorado, September 1956

, Nashville, TN. 1956, 7p, 4 x 5.25 inches, Foreman addressed the coming merger of the National Missionary Training School with the American Baptist Theological Seminary, which she opposed. NMTS was controlled by the African-American National Baptist Convention while the white Southern Baptist Convention ran the ABTS. She resisted the Southern Baptists' "domineering techniques, the paternalistic attitudes, and dictatorial policies" and the "second class citizenship" that the merger would bring about. Foreman was president of the NMTS at the time. The merger did take place in 1957. Not in OCLC. Women held significant leadership positions in the National Baptist Convention's schools and chaired their own women's division of the organization
