A re-examination of the legal case in which the Supreme Court decided that children could not be forced to attend public schools. Discusses social context and how it has changed. The Pierce case arose in Oregon in 1922 when the KKK argued that Catholic schools should be closed and all children enrolled in public schools with an "American" curriculum.
