Wells, William V.

Walker's expedition to Nicaragua; a history of the Central American war; and the Sonora and Kinney expeditions including all the recent diplomatic correspondence; together with a new and accurate map of Central America, and a memoir and portrait of general William Walker

Stringer and Townsend, New York. 1856, vi, 316p., wood-engraved frontis portrait with sepia tint, first edition 7x5 inch cinnamon cloth boards gilt panelled in blind, all edges speckle-decorated as issued. Caveat emptor: lacks the map; and is an ex libris copy (last checked out on 1 Nov 1900). Relatively sound, with the following disfigurements: edgewear with fraying at top and tail, bits of card showing at corner tips, tipped-on "book due" slip and instructions to patrons on front endsheet, faint rubberstamp impressions to blanks and title page, compression-ripple to textblock, rear free endsheet roughly out, ugly spine numerals, faint spatter stain to upper cover. On the plus side, hinges are fine, spine lettering quite legible, frontis unblemished. Sure wish we had the map.
