Jay, Bill

Photographers photographed. Introduction by Helmut Gernsheim

Gibbs Smith Inc. / Peregrine Smith Books, Salt Lake City. 1983, xiv, 82p., lengthy captions, 9.5x8 inch gloss white wraps, a very good copy. The cover is decorated with the Weegee portrait, interestingly cropped, full portrait is within and in fact the very first; Jay visited Weegee a few months before demise, caption text ends, "He was alone, sad, and often incoherent. But his pictures speak on." The portrait by Jay looks like a Weegee ! all chiaroscuro and grotesquerie. And FYI, Nancy Newhall died in a most peculiar way; many such interesting details.
