The author's captions emphasize the vocation or dodge of the vendor / busker / street entrepreneur, such as "book-vending crone" (an uncommon antiquarian image, not yet swiped), "The Old Leatherman" (not Larry Townsend), sellers of popcorn, candy, onions, birds, chicksweed, shoelaces, pretzels &c--and trades such as chimney sweep
