Jones, David

In parenthesis; seinnyessit e gledyf ym penn mameu

Chilmark Press, New York. 1961, xv, 225p., sketch map and several illustrations by the author (who considered himself a painter), first US edition cloth boards with tinted top edge, in dust jacket. The casing is faintly soiled with handling, the jacket dim and somewhat edgeworn; dj also bears verso a large old kraft-tape reinforcing panel that restores a small, once-ragged tear to back cover. The 1937 Faber edition of this odd blank-verse epic or 'novel' (based on the author's experiences in World War I and incorporating Arthurian and Welsh legends), is Young 2039. This American first includes a new two-page introduction by T. S. Eliot, Jones' Faber editor, who then and now thought the tale "a work of genius".
