An ex library copy with severe external damage, head of spine chipped creased and frayed, glue repairs at base have closed spine tunnel, numerous stampings to ffep and title page. Textblock internally has some handling soil, but is otherwise sound as are the hinges. Reading copy. North Carolina social study. Raper's work, issued under the imprimatur of the Southern Committee on the Study of Lynching, reflected the growing pressure of the NAACP and other groups to prevent this assault on Black communities. Charles Johnson, R. R. Moton, Howard Odum and Monroe Work, among others, served on the Commission; Raper was its research secretary.
