Jaques, Louise V.

Lao Tzu and the eight immortals / T'ik T'ak T'oh, a classic historical novel of China

George Channing, Carmel CA. 1974, xii, 132p., eight color plates and a b&w photoportrait of Jaques, 8.5x6 inch red wraps titled in black (the two titles are printed dos a dos), no. 103 of an unspecified limitation, signed by Louise Jaques. Spine panel and an upper margin are faintly sunned, a very good copy. Unclear whence the two dissimilar titles; anyway, expect made-up stories of historical personages invented by someone steeped in Chinese legend and perhaps overly nostalgic; she left China in her teens, returned occasionally. Find a longish discussion of silk dyeing occasioned by author's veneration for the particular eight images here reproduced. Publisher Channing is son to author Jaques, who was born in Shanghai of parents connected with the Spanish consulate (but had Russian names). She spent her working life in California as a professional typist, designed her own book (alas)
