Dennis, born in Atlanta, Georgia, to a French / Native American father and an African American / Native American mother, very early became a child evanglist preaching to African American audiences in Georgia. He later decided to pass as white, went to Phillips Exeter Academy and then Harvard,served in the military and became a diplomat serving most notably in Nicaragua. In the 1930s Dennis became the leading American intellectual supporting fascism, to the point that he was tried for subversion in 1944 for his fascist views (the indictment was dismissed after the death of the trial's Judge)
