The United Farm Workers Organizing Committee was founded on August 22, 1966 through the combination of the National Farm Workers Association (NFWA), led by César Chávez, and the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee (AWOC) led by Filipino organizer Larry Itliong; it soon thereafter became the United Farm Workers.
