Hundley, D, R.

Social relations in our southern states

Henry B. Price, New York. 1860, 367p., preface, some foxing and extensive damp-curling to pages, occasional burn-marks between leaves we ascribe to pipe-coals, first edition in very worn cloth boards decorated in blind with flaked-off spine gilt. Hinges are sound, a reading copy . Hundley breaks down the social strata of the South into eight types going from Southern Gentleman to Negro Slave and treats each with equal parts respect, contempt and wit. There was a Colonel D. R. Hundley who made a daring escape from a Yankee prison in 1865 and wrote about it.
