Nabokov, Vladimir, edited by Fredson Bowers, introduction by Guy Davenport

Lectures on Don Quixote

Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich, New York. 1983, xix, 219p., 7.75x11 inches, preface, foreword, appendix, illustrations, very good first edition stated in cloth and unclipped dj. There is some confusion over the 1970s-1980s Harcourt first editions. This book, like almost all HB&J books of the period states First Edition BCDE. Many believe (because there was an occasional book with First Edition ABCDE) that this indicates a second printing. It does not. The standard was to remove the First Edition slug from the press leaving the B. They tried with the A but that meant removing another slug of type. Any HB&J with First Edition stated will be a first printing as well.
