Ellenberg, Al [and] Harrison James [pseud.]

Abduction: fiction before fact. Containing text of Black abductor by Harrison James. Edited and with an introduction by Al Ellenberg

Dell-Grove Book, [New York]. 1974, 183p., first edition thus, wraps; pocketbook original. Cover is a bit rubbed, spine panel somewhat faded, paperstock browned throughout. A sound clean copy. Dell 0281. The original, "Black Abductor," is quite scarce, issued by an only briefly active publisher (were there in fact any other titles from it?) Ellenberg dubs "furtive." It came out in 1972 and was provided with an intensely erotic cover illustration, not reproduced here. Ellenberg says that after the SLA emerged and parallels were noted, that "reporters for the New York Post made elaborate efforts to track down both the publisher and author of Black Abductor, and ran into a dead end," publisher's sole address was a post office box, publisher's distributor "vanished," and the pseudonymous author did not step forward and has never been identified. Conspiracy theory has it thisaway : Black Abductor was run up solely to provide Donald DeFreeze with notions, a scenario, and a PLAN. He had been tacitly authorized to deal in weapons, and use them to do heists, he consistently got no hard time only extensions of parole, and was allowed to keep much of the arsenal (see Lake Headley's "Las Vegas P. I.," his chapter DeFreeze's rap sheet), his mind was being expertly inflated by exhortations from Colston Westbrook, so.. he kept inflating. One lone nut thinks that "Black Abductor" might have been cranked out by E. Howard Hunt, not only a conscienceless CIA covert action guru, but prolific fount of fiction since 1942 well on into the 1990's, with a mix of serious novels and pseudonymous lumenprole sleeze. Any volunteers to do word-comparisons with Hunt's public writings, especially those from his late 60's / early 70's period?
