The University of North Carolina Press, Chapel Hill. 1927, xvii, 116p., first edtion boards gilt in two fabrics (black linen backstrip, marigold buckram) in dust jacket , top edge tinted red, the calendared paperstock thick and in places bound as unopened signatures; very good condition, bright dj with a woodblock print of banjoplayer, jacket has some edge wear and a few closed tears and is price clipped, near-fine. European American author who, according to the introduction, sets the background for the flowering of African American artistry in the folkways of the South. "I believe," says Green, "that those who read them will agree that not since the days of Joel Chandler Harris have they come upon anything fresher or more interesting"
