Lauria was a Connecticut-born writer who traveled for six years through the South with a carnival experiencing at close hand the Ku Klux Klan and the racism of the South in the 1920s. He went on to become a radio personality and actor/comedian. His first book was vindicated in a New York obscenity trial.
