International Association of Newspapers and Authors, New York. 1901, 255p. + [10]p. ads, 7x4.5 inch yellow-brown cloth boards titled and decorated in black and grass-green, later generation printing of the African American author's first novel (in the very first issue Laurence was spelled with a "w"). Boards somewhat soiled. Some wear at corners. Number "10" penciled inside front board, and a defect in the paper on page 68,. *BAL 4293 Note that the credited printer is "Becktold" out of St. Louis Mo., whom we judge to have been (from the noticibly broken typeface) evidently a jobber reproducing his plates from the earlier presswork of "North River Bindery" out of New York
