Le petit journal; supplément illustré, Dimanche 7 Mai 1911, numéro 1.068

Le Petit Journal, Paris. 1911, 48x18 inch accordion-folded sheet, edgeworn with a number of closed tears and folded once horizontally. Somewhat fragile. The front wrap consists of a color drawing entitled "Scène de lynchage aux États-Unis; un nègre fusillé sur une scène de théâtre" The scene is a composite based on an actual lynching in Galveston, where the African Americans were tied to the stake and whites paid to shoot them. In this scene, the victim is tied to a stake on the stage of a massive theater while a number of white men shoot at him. The paragraph of internal text describing the scene states in part: "A Livermore (Kentucky) un nègre, inculpé de la assassinat d'un blanc, a été entrainé pur la foule jusqu'a la salle de l'Opéra et lié à un poteau sur la scène."
