[1963], Items include: "Sam Jordan for Mayor campaign newsletter," 1p. leaflet, 8.5x11 inches, with the African American candidate's photo and a list of events, paper browning. Jordan identifies himself as the Freedom Now candidate. "Sam Jordan for Mayor" trifold brochure, outlining positions on low-cost housing units, a 30-hour work week, banning of dogs in law enforcement, non-discrimination in municipal employment and education, and more. "A call for a Freedom Now Party, an all-Black party for 1964," four-page brochure with red rubberstamp of Jordan's campaign on the cover. Lastly, an empty yellow envelope printed for use in the campaign, with Jordan's slogan "America for Americans" within a stars-and-stripes shield. The Texas-born former boxer and long-time bar owner in Hunters Point was the first Black candidate for mayor of San Francisco; he came in fourth on election day
