Crane, Hart
The bridge; a poem
Liveright, New York. 1930, 82p., rubricated title page,Walker Evans frontis on inserted coated stock, rubricated title page, textblock untrimmed; first edition in dust jacket. A holograph note in an unknown hand is tipped onto a blank, this reads "here is a first edition & the first real piece of real poetry to come out of Amer in fifty years" signed with an initial "A." Pastedown bears bookplate of Henry Davis Nadig, endpapers are foxed and browned, expect light old fountainpen underlining (in 'Cape Hatteras') and a marginal query at the end of 'Virginia.' Panelled cloth casebinding is a bit worn at extremities with some weave showing, unclipped dj is badly shelfworn and discolored with large chips out of the spine (entire jacket has been backed professionally with Japanese repair tissue), and the graphic is rubbed. The first revised and corrected edition after a limited edition of 275 copies published by Black Sun.
