Grier C*** The book concerns an neurotic and unwell woman who has an "unnatural" attachment for another woman. S. Weir Mitchell (1798–1858), a physician specializing in neurology, was Charlotte Perkins Gilman's doctor. His rest cure (total isolation without any stimilation) caused her to have a complete breakdown, which was chronicled in her famous short work, "Yellow Wallpaper."
