Chapin, Helen Burwell

The Gillick Press, Berkeley. 1938, Unpaginated, printed on watermarked Arak paper; rubricated title page, b&w tipped-in plates (Buddhist iconography), first edition cloth-backed wood-veneer boards, unopened signatures, deckled fore-edge. Extensive notes in the back for readers unfamiliar with Asian religions, and a preview of postwar popularization to come. A handsome production unfortunately lacking the entire backstrip, joints are ragged, hinges remain sound. Extremities show a little card. Bay area poet writing about Zen and/or Buddhist themes, and Japan in particular. As is, a reading copy.
